(Around nearly all residential areas in Israel the "eruv" is made by means of wire strands tied to poles surrounding the perimeters the designated areas.)

In order to permit carrying from a private home to a courtyard that includes other residential houses a lighter type of "eruv" is sufficient. This is called "eiruvei chatzeiros". It is accomplished by placing bread/matzah in one of the houses and saying a special formula. This makes all the homes in the courtyard one unit and as a result one is permitted to carry from his private home to the courtyard or other homes in the courtyard.
Eretz Yisroel in the Lenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04743030640977483595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7411668548766683003.post-17375287659989466472013-03-17T08:18:55.098+02:002013-03-17T08:18:55.098+02:00Would some kind person take a moment to explain wh...Would some kind person take a moment to explain why "a matzah was kept in the shul as eiruvei chatzeiros for Shabbos"?

Not all your readers are so frum or indeed so learned in Jewish customs to readily understand the reasons for that - but this one would like to know, please.Darth Zeidahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11885872955106929227noreply@blogger.com
